On the feild of battle!

Brothers,

I’m very excited about this challenge. I think it’s a great opportunity to push us towards those goals we may have been sitting on or moving forward at a sluggish place. I also think it will be interesting to see what each other does and take on some challenges which are outside our comfort zones.

I’ve taken on 3 coaches for this challenge. I have one for each category. I realized that my strengths are in acting on a challenge but I am weak at finding direction and staying on track.

Some of my main goals are getting in shape, writing 10-15 minutes of stand up material, perform stand up 1 time (before end of contest) and to go back to school. I also want to create habits within these categories so I can continue beyond the contest.

I’ve told others about the competition and they think it’s very cool but you can tell they all don’t really understand it. I’ve been asked multiple times “How do you know someone won’t cheat?”. What can you say to them? I just say, “it’s not the point” and you don’t know these guys. They are SPARTANS!!!!!

See you on the field of battle,

Rob Skiles

Bobo, I think it's inspiring how you're ramping up for this challenge. It's sad how easy it is to just sit through life and watch it pass us by. I have no doubt that you will acheive your goals and even surpass them.
I too am excited about what tis challenge will do for me even after it has passed. The only person you cheat in this competition is yourself.
Some people just don't get it, and they never will. You may recall the story of when Leonidas and his honor guard of 300 met with the other Greeks on the way to meet the Persians. They were disheartened by the small number of Spartans and wanted to appoint another of the Greek leaders to be in cahrge of the military force, suggesting that he had brought more soldiers than Leonidas.
Leonidas had everyone stand, and then had the professional carpenters sit, then the sculptors, the architects, etc. Eventually only the spartans remained standing, the only professional Greek soldiers.
Today's world does not challenge us in the ways of the old world. Our food and water is laid before us, someone else builds a shelter over our head, we do not even travel under our own power, we ride a car, a bus, a plane.
I salute those who brought us this challenge, and those who join in it, for we are disdaining the life that is handed to us, and we are choosing the path of men and warriors, the path that our ancestors walked with dignity.
